In working with you, we get to learn a bit about you. So we think it’s only fair that we share more with you about us! We sat down with our Director of Separate Together, Siobhan Mullins, and asked her a few questions.

Do you have any siblings?

I am one of four children, I have three brothers—I’m the only girl!

Have you always been based in Canberra?

I was born in Sydney and spent some time when I was a child living in Newcastle, Sydney and England, before moving to Canberra.

What are your interests or hobbies?

I scuba dive and enjoy random explorations—whether that be day trips to various caves, going to the beach, going on bush walks or visiting farmers markets. I do enjoy cooking and my family will tell you that the best thing I cook is my tomato twist bread.

What’s been the most interesting place that you’ve ever travelled to and why?

I’ve travelled to the States, Indonesia, Thailand and to Europe but I’d have to say that the most interesting place that I’ve ever travelled to has been Africa. I went by myself and joined various tours groups, travelling to South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zanzibar and Kenya. I loved the difference in culture and the safaris.

Tell us more about you professionally.

I’ve practised exclusively in family law, including family violence matters, since being admitted to practice as a lawyer. Before establishing Separate Together, I represented clients in Family Court and Federal Circuit Court family law proceedings. I also appeared before our local Court to represent individuals in family violence matters. I represented clients at mediations and family dispute resolution conferences too. I am also a collaboratively trained lawyer.

Why did you start Separate Together?

I realised that I could help separating individuals and couples, who’ve managed to reach an agreement together, by specialising in formalising such agreements in a legal way. I figured that they’ve done the hard yards in reaching an agreement together, so why not make the process of formalising it easy and fast! I went with the model of operating the firm as an online one because I could help more people across Australia and cut down on operating costs; thereby passing the savings onto our clients.

Who else works with you?

I have a team who work with me behind the scenes on different aspects of the firm. For the most part though, if you ring, you’ll find it’ll be me answering the phones and responding to emails and queries. I think it’s important that clients have easy access to the lawyer that they’re choosing to work with. I happily speak with people on the phone who are interested in our services and want to know more.
